Recreational Reading...

So I've had a thought recently that I am completely obsessed with reading. I will set aside time during the day, at least an hour, to read my current book. Just today I finished reading the Sookie Stackhouse series. It was a 10 book long series and I started the whole series back at the beginning of August.. so basically I went through ten novels in about 8 weeks.. that is absolutely insane. I've never been an avid reader, back in high school it was like pulling teeth just to get me to read a book for a class! But now I don't know what I would do if I wasn't reading something. I don't always have my head buried in a book but I do like to set aside that time just to myself where I can curl up and go into another world that someone has created.

I know it is worn out a little but I'm completely into the vampire stuff that is out right now. I started off reading the Twilight Saga and I thought that was a really great set of books. However after I started reading some of the books that weren't meant for "tweens" I realize that Twilight was kind of childs play lol.

Since I finished the Sookie Series this afternoon I had to find something else to read.. so I looked up a few different series and decided on the Dark Series by Christine Feehan. It is a series of 21 novels and the 22nd will be released next year. Hopefully that will keep me busy until at least Christmas time.

  1. How awesome is it to meet someone else who enjoys reading? I know that not many people will probably know what I'm talking about, but there is this set of books called the Nancy Drew series. These stories supposedly take place in the 1950s. It's about this 18 year old detective named Nancy Drew and in each story, she meets people who are new, and it always mentions her friends, etc. But they're really good. What is this Sookie Storehouse series? It sounds interesting and I would mind reading it. I was also like that, when I was younger, getting me to read was like pulling teeth with me because I hated it, nowadays I can't find anything to read because I've read everything I own. Most of the books my dad owns are about people I don't even know, alot of weird British comedians, weird British actors, musicians before my time, etc. The kind of stories I get into are stories that involve police work, those CSI books are pretty good, but the CSI:NY books they have out, I will read repeatedly because they are so good. If I don't have a book to read, I pretty much lose my marbles because I'll die of boredom. If I don't have a book to read, I'll go crazy!

  2. The Sookie Stackhouse series is also called the Southern Vampire Series, its written by Charlaine Harris. There are 10 books in total and the first one is Dead Until Dark and every name after that has something to do with the word Dead.. Its a very good series and totally worth reading because its like mystery and vampires and romance all in one!

  3. By the way, I don't think it's insane. I finished a book in one day because it was so good. Unfortunately, that is one thing my sister hates about me, I can finish books quicker than her. She recently had to read Lord of the Flies, I told her the book stunk, and she had to read it and last night she finished it even she said it sucks! Did you ever have to read that book? I had to read it final year of high school, in Senior English. And I keep thinking about some of the books I had to read in school and in some of my English classes, we had these books that the teacher kept in the class that we would have to get out and go to the story that was written on the dry erase board. We would sometimes pair up and do assignments on the stories. I remember this one story I had to read, it was so fascinating, it was called Return to Manzanar, it was about this Japanese lady and her family, how she was looking back on her life in the internment camp. It was a really good story. But I guess my interest in history helped it. But I keep thinking about some of those stories, like in my eight grade English class, we had to read The Outsiders and we had to watch the movie, personally it was better than the book. But I don't think it's insane to read so many books in so little time. If reading is what you enjoy, then go about reading! I do!

  4. Sweet! Southern vampire stories! I'm always up for a good vampire story. But I didn't know that those Sookie Storehouse stories were those stories by Charlaine Harris. I'm in desparate need of reading material. Hopefully, soon I can get money for books! I recently bought The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. If you've seen the movie, it's really good. But if you have never read the book, it's about a 14 year old girl named Susie Salmon who gets murdered by her neighbor George Harvey, and how, even in heaven, she tries to give her family hints about her murderer. It's touching, but really good. The movie is really cool as well, I was watching it recently and there was this really cute actor in it, if you've ever seen The Sopranos, there's this actor on the show named Michael Imperioli, he's in the movie, he plays Det. Len Fenerman. But in reality, the book is really touching, but it's reallly good, I've already read it twice! I just love reading, is it so bad?

  5. I've actually read The Lovely Bones before but I haven't seen the movie yet. If you like Alice Sebold she wrote another book that is really good call Almost Moon. It is touching in a weird sorta creepy kind of way.. Its a story about this woman and the 24 hours after she murders her mother. I know your thinking well how can a story like that be touching but she starts remembering all of these things about how her mother was (she was diagnosed with dimentia or alzheimers, one of the two). You should really read that one because she is such an amazing writer, even after this woman kills her mother your on her side the whole time.

Also the Sookie Stackhouse books are amazing.. You should get online sometime and watch the series True Blood. Its based on the Sookie Stackhouse books and its really interesting to see how different the books are from the series.. not in a bad way just different.

  6. That's it! I'm going to get Almost Moon because towards the end of The Lovely Bones, there is a part of the story Almost Moon, and I think her mom has Alzheimers. So is that what Almost Moon is about? Man, I'll DEFINITELY have to check out that book because I'm losing my marbles, I have nothing to read! I'll have to wait until my birthday next Friday to get money. Right now, I babysit kids in the neighborhood and get paid for it, but it isn't enough for when I have to start paying my student loan, but I'm definitely going to have to check out Almost Moon and those Sookie Storehouse stories, they sound freakin amazing!
